Are you inside the box ?

I attended a session of a innovator last week.........by Porus Munshi
He authored a book "Breakthrough Innovation"
He gave very valuable inputs for way of thinking and how and why we won't be able to think out of box.
He gave a simple problem to solve that very often asked to test your IQ but in a little tricky way.
Give me at least 10 different ways to divide the Square into "three" equal parts. He gave a 5 mins time and asked how many people got more than 5 answers.
I could see many hands raising with full happiness. Then he asked how many people got number of solutions between 5- 10 even I could see some hands who got that number. Then he asked how many got more than 10 solutions ?
Nobody raised hand then he askedhow many got more than 50 or 100 so on...... ?
Then he showed us how many ways you could have divided the square into 3 equal parts. It is a simple logic and people started thinking why didn't I think of that :)

Inside the box
But the reason nobody could think was the limit he set for that was just 10 and people didn't think it is necessary to think beyond it.
If you get a task which will ask you to solve the problem in a way, you could think of only 2 or 3 ways not more than that.
That's where people can't think out of box.
This was just one example he gave and then he told many different people who have done many inventions and how and why they could do it.
It was worth hearing his session.
If you get a chance to read the book I think you might get much more things .
Happy reading !!!!

Are tabs addictive ???

Are tabs addictive? When i heard about these tablets 2 years back i thought these are some things might take long time before it reach to our hands. But very soon my thoughts were proven wrong and there are tabs available from 3k to 40k right now in the market. So even this fever hit me with 20k. I joined this tab club a month ago after i bought samsung galaxy p3100. Some of my team mates have these tabs from around an year back with an ipad fever. They kept telling me that tabs are addictive n u cannt really live with out these once u r used to it. Now i started feeling it. I could give u some examples for it.
1: my mom n dad visited me this month. My mom told me that she want to buy a laptop. I asked her why she wanted a laptop. She said she want to talk to all of us in video i.e skype. I asked her do unhave any other requirement ? She said she want to create some excel sheets for her office use. I showed her both these things in both laptop and tab. She was impressed with da ease of use of tab compared to laptop. She listed down the below advantages of tab over a laptop....
Compact Touch screen (easy to touch whatever she wanted than typing) Easy to carry n charge She can play games easily Take n edit photos One touch login for video chat (skype) ...
All the above things she learned in just a week n she was ready to buy it before she leave.
2: On a small short term business trip i am going to Denmark this weekend. My wife was eager to know if i am taking da tab with me, when i told her i am taking it with me just she gave a smile n said ok. But i could hear her inner voice ;-)
3: This is last but not least my 2 year old daughter when is crazy about the games like antz, taling tom, turbo kids n many other rhymes apps.
I could list many things here...i just wanted to give the idea....i am looking forward 4 something else new tecnology/trend which will change the world of tabs to something else....hope that day is not far.
Happy reading !!!!

Interesting Vs Challenging work

We recently asked for a feedback in our office.we got pretty different feedback from different people that they are not getting challenging work and some said they are not getting interesting work. These two things made me think what exactly they were trying to tell.

Interesting work vs challenging work

What is interesting work for u? It might be different from person to person.
If u ask me I might say writing a two page application in HTML5 and any JS frameworks would be interesting for me,but might not be challenging. But the same thing could be challenging for an entry level developer.
If you have to implement some complex algorithm into Java code that might be more challenging than writing CRUD operations in JDBC.

Sometimes we come across things which are interesting as well as challenging. Did you ever felt like that ?
So, according to me if you are willing to work on anything with your full interest that would be always interesting, but to achieve that target if you have to struggle that would be the challenging work which you would love to do.
Most often I feel debugging legacy code is the challenging job to do, it is challenging but many people won't love to do it because they don't find it interesting.
"Developers are interested in creating legacy code not maintaining it"

So, nobody can define what is interesting work what is challenging work. You have to think yourself to find out what is interesting to you and what challenges you are ready to take on !!!!

My Abroad Experiences - Part 1

After a long time I got an o pportunity to travel abroad for 2 months to Denmark, my previous visit was to US that was in 2007 winter. I was happy to go because I got this offer after a long time as well as the place was different this time. I was never been to Europe earlier. So I thought I will have both the opportunities to work with some new people as well as understanding the other continent people as well.

Only concerning part for me in this travel was I have to travel alone. I am kind of person who like to talk a lot. Blah.... Blah.....Blah. But unfortunately I had to travel along that too for a period of 2 months :-/
I asked for an apartment to stay there where I would be able to cook some veggie food as it is difficult to get something like Alu-Gobi sabji there in any restaurant in Kolding. As there was a Service apartments group was there named "Kolding Byferie" , my manager booked that for me.

I started from Bangalore on 10th October 2010 the magical date 10-10-10 and the flights were from Bangalore to Frankfurt a long flight of 14 hours and a waiting of  7 hrs in Frankfurt airport to get a connecting flight for a place called Billund in Denmark. After getting down @ 6 PM there I had to take a cab for a nice place called Kolding, DK. It was about an hour drive to reach this place.

As the apartments group has a reception inside it, it would be closed at 5 PM as they mailed me that they will keep it in a box outside the reception and they mailed me the pass code of that box as well. I thought that would be an easy task to get it because some of my colleagues who traveled before me already explained me how that works, so I thought everything is perfect.

By the time I reached there it was completely dark as it was already around 7:30 PM and the reception was closed as expected. I asked the cab driver to help me out to get the key and he helped me pulling out my luggage from the boot and find my key of the apartment too. Then the real and unexpected problem started, It was written on a cover - M-4 on the key cover, and the driver explained me that each building has an alphabet as name and each has 4 apartments in it. That was really easy to understand and he asked me to roam around and figure out the building written as M and go inside the find the number 4 apartment. This sounded pretty easy to me and I said thanks to driver and he said good bye.

Then I started finding buildings and I was able to reach out all other letter buildings but M,N,O,P buildings are missing. After roaming there for 30 mins I was sweating like hell , not only due to pulling the huge luggage  bags due to the tension building up in my mind, what I should do if I am not able to find this building, because in these countries  nobody will be outside after 7 PM. After 30 mins I was able to find one old lady with a dog who came for a walk.... I approached that lady and she showed me a route and said go straight and take a left and walk for few mins you will find the first building as M. She was my angel that time :-)

I walked in the way she showed me for 20 - 30 feet and I could see a big lake in front of me and the left road was completely with mud and stones and not even a single light on that lane. I was completely pissed off with that and I reached back to reception and took sometime to calm down myself. Then I started thinking and luckily I saved a help line phone number on my mobile and I activated international roaming before I go. I tried that call and a guy picked up and was trying to explain me the route, and I was not in a position to listen to him. I asked him to comedown and take me to that apartment and he was telling that would be charged :-) I was almost thought of using F**k off to him. But I controlled and asked him politely that it would be great if you could come and guide me to the apartment. He came after 10 mins and asked me to walk n pull my luggage in that muddy and stony road which was a huge pain in my A**.  but somehow I reached the apartment before middle of the night. I thanked him and said Good night.

Journey Of Comedy in Tollywood

Telugu Film Industry which is now known as Tollywood. I don't know from when it became Tollywood, but the comedy of this industry must be much older than this name. I don't know when the first comedy movie got released, still I am sure it is started from the time of Dumb movies. I believe the first Indian movie was "Raja Harishchandra(1913)" must have some comedy scenes for sure.In early 1940's we started having Talkie movies. Though I am very young to talk about the comedy from beginning of Cinema industry in India, Whatever movies I have seen I feel there is tremendous changes happened in each and every section of the cinema like Direction, Music and Technology like Animation and last but not least Acting of Actors [I don't want to comment on any Hero now :P]. But here ...

I would like to write some of my comments on the Comedy those I noticed from many years. I watched many movies from 1950's till now. I think "Mayabazar" and "Patalabhairavi" came in 1950's. From that time I watched many movies till now.
I think Ramana Reddy and Relangi would be the first slot of full time comedians in telugu industry. I could remember many of those actors scenes by watching it you could laugh for hours. Even if you remember some scenes you cannot control your laughter.
I would say Relangi acting in Mayabazar, Missamma, Illarikam, Narthanasala and many more.
My favorite dialog of Relangi is 'Tailam ...Tailam padayyendi sir' and "Sundari aha Sundari" song in Mayabazar.
Relangi
Relangi is one of the finest comedians Telugu industry has got, and nobody can deny that too.
I should mention is acting in both Social movies as well as Pouraanikams. He was the best suite for Uttara Kumarudu who is jealous of Abhimanyu in Mayaabazar. Another best example would be in missamma movie he ask bribe to ANR every time he ask some info about the NTR and savitri's flash back. Those sequences are really great and ever green.

Ramana Reddy
His personality is a big plus for Ramana Reddy and his expressions are tremendous in some movies. You can not stop laughing if you see the song "Ayayo chetilo Poyene" from Kulagothralu.
In Gundamma kadha he is brother of Suryakantam, his character in this movie is mix of cunning villan but still he could produce much comedy out of it.

I think after these two legendary comedians the industry trend got changed a little bit. I believe the comedians got more prominence and some are settled as a comedy villeins as well. the next person in that list would be Allu Ramalingiah and Rajababu. In this the variation is Allu was from the period of Relangi and Ramana Reddy he was doing very small roles in those films where the charm was taken by Relangi most of the times. He could pick up well in 1970's. I think it started from Sambarala Rambabu and Andala Ramudu.

Allu Rama Lingaiah
He is great comedian and actor for sure. I would say he is an actor rather than a Comedian. because he acted as character artist in many movies and his performance in those movies also was extraordinary. I should give examples of Andala Ramudu as "Tee Taa" Teesesina Taseeldaar he could generate some healthy humor. I personally like the his performance in Sankarabharanam movie as Raju friend of Sankara Shastry. His best dialog was "meeru yaajulu memu raajulam" okari maata okaru gouravinchukovali mari. ee saariki ala kanicheyyandi.

The next one in the list none other than Rajababu and Padmanabham. When they became popular the comedy trend got little changed. Padmanabham played some good characters and Rajababu was also prooved himself as a good actor through "Tata Manavadu" but the comedy trend became little bit changed. They started getting priority and most of the times these characters are around Hero and praising hero all the time. Some seperate comedy tracks irrespective of movie scope. This is not at all relevant to the main story and creating some songs just for fun with some side actress. This song trend went for many years for comedians in the industry.

The next part to be continued .......

We need a Software God?

Hey,

Software Engineer, very easy to detect him as he will be very sad on Monday and happy on Friday.
Of course there are exceptions to all .... coz there are people working on 24*7 support also :-(
And in today's world the life of millions of people is in 1's and 0's.
Best example lies here.

Anyway that is not our topic now. I was lately facing many technical problems and I was praying god to solve all my problems. but I was thinking which GOD would be best suited for this.

Because in Indian mythology there are specific gods for specific things. Like for Rains you should pray Varuna Dev and for Money you should pray Lakshmi Devi and so on....
when our ancestors defined these gods they don't know computer and software, hardware, technical support etc. otherwise they would have defined the gods for each purpose. Now if we have a .Net or Java or QTP code issue or we are unable to solve a server level issue like clustering or data replication or concurrency issues, to whom I have to pray.

By now you might be saving that what the heck....... Ravi doesn't know the software God yet !!!

How could he survive for these many years in software with out knowing a software God ?

Yes you are right ....

I already know your answer Search Engine (and now most of the people refer this as Google).

But I think this is not God... This calls a debate among us, but I this is more like a "Binary Code Man".
This Binary Code Man means it is like a super hero, HeMan, SpiderMan or a SuperMan. This will give us info if it has and most of the complex problems will have many solutions in forums which are not suitable for you or misleading. Yes, I do agree that this will definitely point you to something which will be useful for you. But it might not solve your complete problem as expected.
So, I mean there are always limitations to the Super heros. But anything is possible to God. I would like to have some Gods to pray when I am stuck with complex problems.

If you too think the same, lets pray to some other god to grant us a god who will take care of this new portfolio called Computers and Software, later we might think to add more categories like Tech support and BPO in the same God's profile.

Thanks.

'Slumdog - Millionaire ?'

After a long time, I guess after 2 months I started Scribbling in my blog,
many people asked me too, nothing happening in blog. I would say thanks to all of them who took time to have a look at this page.

Please don't consider this as a review of the movie, these are my thought before and after watching this movie.

I watched the movie Slumdog Millionaire this weekend and I felt some positives and negatives after watching this movie. Many people don't like reality movies because they know the reality and want to enjoy or watch something superstitious which will not happen or can't do by themselves. I mean beating 20 people in one slap like Rajanikanth does in his movies.
Some people want to laugh and spend some good time by watching a movie.
This movie don't have anything like this but I could say this is not 100% reality movie. Many things shown in this film are not that easy as shown. By considering this we can say that this is a just another commercial movie, but there are lot of people who said this is reality movie because it showed the life of slums in Mumbai.
In fact many people (Amitabh) criticized that this American producer want to showcase the Indian poverty and make awards from it. India don't have only poverty and slums :(
I heared a voice that he said that because in the movie, Hero ( Jamal Malik ) got an autograph from Amitabh who came out of deep shit with Amitabh's photograph.
But I do agree with this part of Amitabh every channel and news paper stated that "Indian Oscar deams might get fulfilled this time with Slumdog".
I don't understand why this could be? This is not an Indian film. This is a hollywood movie, only some of our actors and A R Rehman gave the music to this film.
But I feel, getting an Oscar for this film is not the success of Indian cinema.
Anyhow this would the biggest honor for an Indian music director.

Lets leave this apart and have a look at the other side of the film, some activist from mumbai filed a suite against this movie that how can they say a "Slum- DOG" this will hurt many people staying slums and down their morale. but in the recent past I could see many stories as -
"Slumdog Millionaire has changed the way I see slum kids" so this is still an open question to all.
So, over all this film has created lot of waves in all kinds of people from bollywood biggies to slum -dogs ;)

Bail Out Software !!!

The recent past was really bad for all businesses all over the world, whether it is Bank, Oil, Manufacturing or Software. I was reading some articles about this why this happened in US and came to know some facts which I would like to share with you all.

US Bailout
In the US, borrowers are rated either as 'prime' - indicating that they have a good credit rating based on their track record - or as 'sub-prime', meaning their track record in repaying loans has been below par. Loans given to sub-prime borrowers, something banks would normally be reluctant to do, are categorized as sub-prime loans.

Typically, it is the poor and the young who form the bulk of sub-prime borrowers. Due to the housing boom in US, banks gave loans to the sub-prime borrowers in very huge ratio by their subsidiaries for huge rate of interest. Banks thought they the real estate is going to get very good returns though the barrowers don’t return the money they took. The banks were aware that these loans can turn to defaulters that could be the reason they imposed very high rate of interest on them, this caused the problem for banks and increase the number of defaulters.

Software Bailout(?)

There are many questions coming up particularly in India regarding software industry. Everybody on the road you meet is discussing about software industry. I don’t know how many people know what’s happening in the market or in US or in India.

The questions I got in last couple of weeks are as below …….

- Is software affected with this financial problem of US?

- Is software going down?

- Companies removing their employees?

- Some companies going to close soon?

Some statements from people (who think they know everything).

- Hey, you know Software is going down may be with in one month many companies are going to close.

- You must be aware, that many people coming back to India after loosing their jobs in US.

- I think you must be prepared to loose your job soon.

Thanks to all these market and software experts but I do have some questions for them.

Do you know how many software applications, products and clients using these software?

How many of you know how many software engineers you need to maintain the current available applications and products?

How many projects are in development, design, maintenance and support phases?

If we don’t know any of the answers for above questions why are we commenting on the things like layoffs and some industry is going to fail or many software engineers going to loose their jobs.

My Conclusion

According to me, there could be some slog time for software industry until the world economy settle down and start growing again. But this is not an industry which will fall completely in future. Though they have many features and facilities in current applications the clients requirements are always changes and they need somebody to help them out in analyzing, design and code their requirements. So, the languages may change, operating systems may change, frame works may change, databases might change too but the industry remains.

Your views would be appreciated ……..

Mission Kashmir

We all know Kashmir issue is burning since we got independence, I read a joke recently which declares that Kashmir is of India not of Pakistan for sure.
but, this is just for fun, no offense.

An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred recently in the United Nations Assembly that made the world community smile.

A representative from India began: 'Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Rishi Kashyap of Kashmir, after whom Kashmir is named.

When Rishi Kashyap struck a rock and it brought forth water, he thought, 'What a good opportunity to have a bath.'

He removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water.

When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes had vanished. A Pakistani had stolen them.

The Pakistani representative jumped up furiously and in support of Pakistan, he shouted, 'What are you talking about? The Pakistanis weren't there then.'

The Indian representative smiled and said, 'And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech.'

I made it !!!

First in the Google.com search result

Here I would like to share my success of getting my blog as the first result in the google search.
You must be thinking what is so great in this. most of the websites would be getting returned on the first place. There could be, but for me it is great achievement with in 45 days span.
If you are promoting your blog and you could achieve this in this short span and already got 100 organic hits on your blog with in this short span is a big thing for me. When I started blogging it just was a time pass. and now when I started this many people keep asking me, there are no updates to your blog this week? this makes me happy that people are keep watching my blog and started reading them and liking them which is more important. So I started a regular blogging in past 2 months.
I am working for a Internet company and I know many things we can do using internet where as many software engineers don't know that. If you are aware of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques you will defenitely make these blogs very easily popular and reach many users to your blog. Definitely everybody want to popularize their blogs and putting efforts for the same.
But I feel the content is the key for this and you have to keep putting content in your blog rather than following all other techniques. and I am following the same here.
Anyways I am happy that other than my name if I search something else still my blog appears on the first place of course not for all key words. whatever the content relevant in the blog would defenitely making the difference :)
Thanks a lot for all you ......regular visitors of my blog ....... who helped me achieving this result in short time.

15 Aug - Independence Day

Indian Independence Day !!!

We are going to enter into 61 st year of Independence. How are you going to celebrate this day?
Are you happy to celebrate this day? or afraid of celebrating this day, because this could be the day the terrorists target the India to destroy? and there could be a bomb anywhere near to you.
Even if you don't care about these things would you tell me the answers to the below Questions.
What are the reasons you want to celebrate this day?
What are the five things you think India gained progress in these 61 years of Independence?
What all things you still want to purge from India?
What things you could address as an individual to the country?

These are the simple questions I would like to ask every citizen of India. If you ask me these same questions I would like to say the answers as below
Yes I wanted to celebrate this day particularly this year as India's growth is tremendous since independence in lot of sectors like Agriculture, Medical Products, Information Technology, Communications exports.
After all I would give you the best example for celebrating my independence day -

"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were
Told to eat our vegetables at dinner and not leave them.
Mothers said, think of the starving children in India
And finish the dinner.'

And now I tell my children:
'Finish your homework. Think of the children in India
Who would make you starve, if you don't.'?"
Thomas L. Friedman
NY Times Columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner

I think now I need not give you any more explanation about the celebration of my day of Independence.

Jai Hind !!!!.

Celebrate National Sports Day of India?

Yesterday 29th August was the National Sports Day of India. I hope most of the Indians don't know this. Even I was not aware of this till yesterday, when I was browsing some news sites and saw a news about this sports day of India. I smirked after I saw this news for a moment, and thought for a minute do we need a sports day as such. I mean it. Do you think we need a sports day and a Sports Authority etc. What all we achieved till now on the name of sports?
What all sports we do participate in any world recognized events. Cricket is the first word we could hear, we got a world cup 1983 driven by Kapil Dev, after that in recent past we got a 20-20 world cup. But what we lack in cricket is consistency. We never consider any match with anybody for a Win or Loss against whether the opponent is Bangladesh/Scotland or Kiwis/Aussies. I believe the sports day is not only about Cricket for sure. Leave Cricket behind, what else we have to show on our board?
Pace, Bhupati duo tried to bring India's name on the Tennis world. Then Sania followed the same route and I do agree that this is quite interesting, but we still did not get a single Wimbledon or US open shield. Still we are making progress and we have to appreciate it.
We all know(hopefully) our National Sport - Hockey. Once we were the champions of this sport. and now we stand no where in this even after Shahruk Khan's tremendious effort for inspiring to play this sport in "ChackDe". We couldn't even qualify for the recent Beijing Olympics in Hockey.
If we consider Badminton once Gopichand cerated a sensation by winning an international tournament, but after that everything calm down. In recent past Saina Nehwal also tried hard to get into quarter finals of Olympics but couldn't make it.
Boxing, Wrestiling (Vijender,Sushil Kumar ) are the new entries for the Indian Sports where we got some identity in this Beijing Olympics. We really has to aplaude these warriors who kept India in a good position than earlier olympics where India was not listed in the ranks.
Of course here we have to mention Abhinav Bindra's Riefel 10 meters Gold which gave Indian Pride to light for the first time Individual gold medal in Olympics.
When we are discussing about the Olympics I would like to know some things from you. Are we really need to be proud to get the first Individual Gold medal India won this year? Is it supposed to be before 2-3 Olympics?
Nigeria, Latvia,Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Jamaica, Kenya, Armenia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Croatia. All these countries are before India in the Olympic medal list, where as India placed at 53rd place from the top. Do we deserve to be there after these countries? In the above list you might see the country names which you might not heard before or some of the African countries which are very backward compared to India and definitely all these countries has 1/50th population compared to India. So even after having this much population and economically growing much faster, we are not moving as fast as other countries in the Africa I mean the backward countries are also making much better progress than India.
What could be the reason for this? Does the govt not spending sufficient money on Sports or no encouragement for the other sports than Cricket in India? or the section for the events are based on bias ?
I think all of these are the reasons for the poor performance in India in Sports.

Fuel for Software Industry !!!

Fuel for Software Industry

When I am talking about the fuel for software industry, you might be thinking that I would talk about the software engineers getting produced every year who are fuel for software industry. I am sorry to say that I am not talking about anything like this. I am directly talking about the fuel (Diesel) problem right now Indian Software industry facing these days.
I think 3 weeks back, one day when I was in office and working seriously to fix a CSS issue for new design of a page the power went off and system too. I am surprised and looked at the next cube and everybody was in same state of mine. After few minutes our Admin guy told us that this is a power outage and we are running out of "Diesel" to run our generator. That day we were happy that we need not work for the day. At round 4 PM we got the power back to resume our work, but by the time we got the power we lost the mood to work as were in the morning. If you play carom board for 4 hrs and after that if you has to work you can think of your mood :(.
So after this day our admin people came into action and figured out the standard timings of the power cut from the electricity board and told us these are the timings the power going to off and struggled to get the diesel from many different out lets, but still they could not make it as there is a scarcity already there for Diesel, why is the scarcity? Lot of big industries and IT companies ready to buy the diesel at higher price and many out lets stopped selling diesel as they are getting wholesale orders from big IT companies in thousands of liters.
Here I could see the struggle for existence again, If the small IT companies could not show the productivity well they will be screwed up from the upper management in US and they will take back the projects and this will cause cost cutting and reducing the head count in India. I would say if this problem persists for more than 3-4 months there will be lot of lay offs in the small and mid-level software companies as the productivity will get reduced.
To increase the productivity our company changed the office timings itself accorfing to the power cuts. when the power will be off we will be at home and whenever the power is back we will start working. But this would not be a permanent solution as the people are more efficient workers in the morning than after lunch and now we are starting our work after lunch.
Anyways all the companies are struggling with this problem in India and I hope the power supply will be back as normal soon so that all the software companies would be back in form and give good results and grow the industry.

Introspection !!!

Introspection

I started my career with Small scale Software company with just 10 employees, I joined there as a trainee engineer for 6 months project and started learning Java, J2EE there. After 6 months of learning I got promoted to software engineer and started working. In the small scale companies there would be lot of work pressure and they will expect you work on all possible areas like server configurations, loading data, coding, testing, implementation of the project at client side and the providing support to the client anytime needed. The clients are small and the income for these companies is less and profit margins are little too. but the work would be too much to do and they have to pressurize their employees to work as hard as possible to meet the client's expectations. I would like to talk about some pros of these companies too, they are you will be get noticed very quickly, the feedback's of the clients are very clear to the management about you. The trust is very high on employees and there is no manager chain involved and no need to of status mails, logging hours, meaning less estimations, escalations etc. everything would be crystal clear from employee till general manager. Of course there would be favoritism would be there depending on the organization and the Management to grow in these kind of organizations.

After working here for 1.5yrs in that kind of pressure and client side experience I moved to a global giant company which invented PC and introduced many more stable and robust software products to the world. But I was not involved in the product development of this company, I joined the services part of it. That is the first time I came to know the difference between development and services. Services is a buzz word used to clean up and maintain the code developed by some other organization or the same company but defenitely developed by someone else. Here you always have to monitor the systems maintain the systems working. Going through the code but have to change very little things like changing images, change the drop down in particular order etc. Here you are not allowed to experiment things, as they do have experts in everything in their field. you never knew where the server resides. There will be huge manager chain would be there above you. If you need stationary like pen, pencil, notepad you might need to take approval of your manager and send 2-3 mails (if required). Of course don't think that there are only Cons and no Pros in these big giant companies. Lot of pros are there like you will get high quality trainings on any technologies you want to learn with the industry experts, world wide exposure as most of the projects are from US, UK, Canada, Europe. Your views will get changed when you work with the teams in other countries and this exposure will help you increase your self confidence too. There will be lot of facilities like pick and drop to office, gymnasium, swimming pool, comfortable work place and ambiance of the office would be more attractive once you reach the office. They will provide good insurance policies for you and your family dependents. The library facility and some of these big giants nowadays getting tie ups with big B-Schools in India like IIMs and Symbiosis etc to provide part time education for their employees. They do reimburse if you do any certifications for your personal benefit.

After enjoying the benefits of this big giant for almost 2 yrs I have decided to move on and joined a mid-level software company as an Engineer. Here the situations are much different than the earlier two companies. The problem here is you will have small teams in size and you have to interact with the US teams directly and have to talk to Manager in US and findout the requirements and work on them and ask clients directly to review them and re work on their comments. This is a Product based company so all our clients are the marketing and sales teams based in US. All the clients belong to our own company so there will be little work pressure but the of course the work will be much more than the big giants. I can't say the quality of work would be much better but defenitely they will get back each and every penny they give you. So you will have 100% work when you compare to the other companies. There might not be a huge manager chain but there will be a manager who will take care of the things. I came to know here that the designation and the job profile here will never match, the person who is a director in other companies I know that he would be the senior most in the company and will not be doing any coding at least. Here the people who are directors will be coding and working almost like a software engineer but of course they have got a good hold in the company and get paid a huge sum of amount. These companies might not provide you good facilities like gym, pick and drop but they pay you decent packages which you would like to see in your bank after a hectic month. you can not expect anything else than this from these companies. There could be a huge inclination in the job in these companies after couple of years if you have good relationships with your managers. But one thing you have to remember is managers are managers and you can't share everything with them. Be clever and you know how to please your manager, these kind of companies are for you. If you want to change from one project to another that might not possible here as they don't want to change the people from projects as they have good idea on the current project, this might cause frustrations to employees and they might get good offers outside and by the time management realizes it is already over.

Despite of working with all these varieties of companies like small, mid-level and giant companies I could tell you the truth of the success is bitter and unchanged. Most of the people in software thinks that hard work is the key to success and of course it is.... but that is not the only artifact matters for your success. There are different definitions for hard work each manager has. In first few months you have to figure out what is the definitions your manager has for it, and you start working accordingly. I hope the people who has got some work experience has got it clearly but those who couldn't understand would understand it very soon with little bit of experience.

Till now I worked with these kind of companies which I could tell you. May be in future I would add much more to this article keep watching .......

Who moved my Cheese !!!

Long time back I remember I read a book called Who Moved My Cheese!!!.
I guess most of you might have read this. What this book says is you have to move on in life, in Management terms it's all about Change management. How will you manage the changes you are going to get in your daily life. We know that everybody has to agree the change at some point. But the point is how soon you are going to take the steps to accept the change.
We even know the problem of Inflation all over the world, particularly in India. Now we are almost reaching 12% as per the statistics of all major News channels and News papers in India. In this time if you want to control the inflation is it possible? or is there any way you could find for this?
If yes please let me know, I would like to tell this to P.Chidambaram who is the finance minister of India right now. Seriously I am not kidding.

Don't think that there is no relation between the first two paragraphs ....

I have an Idea which would seem like Inflation control is possible ....... But I am not 100% how it would work.

But it is really interesting to read the below story .......

Anyways..... now the point is I got a Mail today which gives you the idea of that you have to start at some point to change this Inflation.

Story:

A man eats two eggs each morning for breakfast. When he goes to the Kirana store he pays Rs. 12 a dozen. Since a dozen eggs won't last a week he normally buys two dozens at a time. One day while buying eggs he notices that the price has risen to Rs. 16. The next time he buys groceries, eggs are Rs. 22 a dozen.

When asked to explain the price of eggs the store owner says, "The price has gone up and I have to raise my price accordingly". This store buys 100 dozen eggs a day. He checked around for a better price and all the distributors have raised their prices. The distributors have begun to buy from the huge egg farms. The small egg farms have been driven out of business. The huge egg farms sell 100,000 dozen eggs a day to distributors. With no competition, they can set the price as they see fit. The distributors then have to raise their prices to the grocery stores. And on and on and on.

As the man kept buying eggs the price kept going up. He saw the big egg trucks delivering 100 dozen eggs each day. Nothing changed there. He checked out the huge egg farms and found they were selling 100,000 dozen eggs to the distributors daily. Nothing had changed but the price of eggs.

Then week before Diwali the price of eggs shot up to Rs. 40 a dozen. Again he asked the grocery owner why and was told, "Cakes and baking for the holiday". The huge egg farmers know there will be a lot of baking going on and more eggs will be used. Hence, the price of eggs goes up. Expect the same thing at Christmas and other times when family cooking, baking, etc. happen.

This pattern continues until the price of eggs is Rs. 60 a dozen. The man says, " There must be something we can do about the price of eggs".

He starts talking to all the people in his town and they decide to stop buying eggs. This didn't work because everyone needed eggs.

Finally, the man suggested only buying what you need. He ate 2 eggs a day. On the way home from work he would stop at the grocery and buy two eggs. Everyone in town started buying 2 or 3 eggs a day.

The grocery store owner began complaining that he had too many eggs in his cooler. He told the distributor that he didn't need any eggs.
Maybe wouldn't need any all week.

The distributor had eggs piling up at his warehouse. He told the huge egg farms that he didn't have any room for eggs would not need any for at least two weeks.

At the egg farm, the chickens just kept on laying eggs. To relieve the pressure, the huge egg farm told the distributor that they could buy the eggs at a lower price.

The distributor said, " I don't have the room for the %$&^*&% eggs even if they were free". The distributor told the grocery store owner that he would lower the price of the eggs if the store would start buying
again.

The grocery store owner said, "I don't have room for more eggs. The customers are only buying 2 or 3 eggs at a time. Now if you were to drop the price of eggs back down to the original price, the customers
would start buying by the dozen again".

The distributors sent that proposal to the huge egg farmers but the egg farmers liked the price they were getting for their eggs but, those chickens just kept on laying. Finally, the egg farmers lowered the
price of their eggs. But only a few paisa.

The customers still bought 2 or 3 eggs at a time. They said, "when the price of eggs gets down to where it was before, we will start buying by the dozen."

Slowly the price of eggs started dropping. The distributors had to slash their prices to make room for the eggs coming from the egg farmers.

The egg farmers cut their prices because the distributors wouldn't buy at a higher price than they were selling eggs for. Anyway, they had full warehouses and wouldn't need eggs for quite a while.

And those chickens kept on laying.

Eventually, the egg farmers cut their prices because they were throwing away eggs they couldn't sell.

The distributors started buying again because the eggs were priced to where the stores could afford to sell them at the lower price.

And the customers starting buying by the dozen again.

Think about it for a min, coz I am going to ask you some questions....

I agree the story is really nice but I have some Questions over here,
Will you agree for the same?
Now, Can we transpose this analogy to the gasoline/Gold/Vegetables/etc any industry?
I might not agree with this concept for 100%. As in the story there might not be only one big Egg Farm which produces the products.
Now a days there is a huge competition in every field and industry and there are huge ware houses for all types of products. Even the transportation is too fast and economize these days and by all means you can send the goods all over the world instead of distributing only in a town.
By considering all these points I don't think this theory might not applicable for all products and industries.

But Still I appreciate the Idea of the author and the approach he took to solve the problem.

I appreciate your ideas too, if you could share.

For developing any business we need many things as we think Capital and Finance, work force, Clients or Customers etc. But I think firstly, you should know what exactly you are going to do I mean IDEA. IT industry in India

I recently hear lot of questions from many people that IT is not booming now, IT will be in slump soon like it was there sometime back in 2000. But how many of you agree with it.
If you think yes, I have some questions for you

What would be the root cause of this Slump?
Where will all the existing jobs go?
Where else they will get the people other than india?

Firstly I would like to address the first Q what would cause this slump? as far as I know the problem is with the US economy, as there was a lot of mortgages given by the all major banks as the real estate was booming there with out much guarantees. usually all US banks consider only the credit history for any loans or mortgages and they are unable to recover them right now as the real estate rates suddenly went down.
Of course this will definitely effect the IT industry in India and we already could see this affect.
I hope most of you might have got their Appraisals/ Increments by now and they know the % hike they got.
Coming back to our main point Slump, this could not reduce the number of jobs as of now because the applications already developed should have to be maintained and supported till end....

Secondly, where will all these existing jobs go?
In the recent past we here the packages demanded by the young professionals in lacks of rupees. This would increase the cost to company which in turn equalize the cost of the US at some point.
I think this could be the reason software giants try to think for the alternatives ...
But where do they find this much man power with all the technical skills the IT industry looking at....
So if you consider that some other country like china/any other would take over the jobs from India.
I think the below information would clear all your doubts you have....

The Marriage Rollercoaster

I am facing a very big problem these days .....which I never thought it could be a problem... Marriage.
I know you are wondering.... but you need not because I guess you are also facing this issue now a days, if not don't laugh you will face this soon ;-)

When I was in college people used to ask me howz your studies, after that people worried about my job. Once I got a job they worried about my Pack. If they think it is Ok( not me) they started worried about my MARRIAGE.

Who ever meets me these days they will ask me the first this after "What's up?"..... "Shaaadi kab hai ?".

This seems that people more eager to see my marriage than me. now the big Question comes why do people bother about somebody's marriage?

Majority of the times I noticed that married people ask this question.
does that means they are jealous/envy about my enjoyment of bachelor's life ;)
and they wanted to push me to sit in the marriage roller coaster which will never stop with the 100 kmph speed once it starts?
How mean the people are ?

I would like to know your views about this problem .....

If you are also facing the same issue and you could help me out solving this
all your help would be appreciated.

Think.com

It is a big Question to all. everybody thinks a lot on lot of problems which they face in their day to day life. But how do we think? ofcourse using brain.... :) I mean why do we think? I recently heard these words "THINKING IS SUCH A WASTE OF TIME".

Is it really a waste of time ? because we only think on lot of issues but we never address them ....

How many times a day you think?

what all do you think?

what is the out come of that thinking ?

How many times you achieved what you thought till now?

Many of us says we have to think on national problems , think about india's politics? think about cricket ?

where ..all these thinking ends up? why is this happening with us?

Even I am not an exception to this crowd ... I have given lot of statements on INDIA, CRICKET, POLITICS ...POPULATION etc..

but Still thinking about all these ...when we can't do anything about any of these things why do we think ... it is a big question mark for me still ...........
