HVPM Sports Week - 2004

After a long time I activated my blog activities. So, here I would like to re memorize you all the week of sports- 2004 in HVPM. Our department has started this initiative of sports week as our management of the college belongs to a sports organization first then into technical studies. Whatever may be the reason we got the opportunity to show our sports man spirit in this week. The day we came to know about this everybody started talking about the only sport called “Cricket” as if there is only one sport in India. (May be we want to prove ourselves as true Indians :) Our regular chat point was library not canteen unlike other colleges (PS: usually libraries are the silent places) After seeing the notice board we went to library and started talking about cricket and people started boasting about their skills of cricket. Then I thought its going to be fun and took a notebook and started writing guy’s name and their skill. Then I could sense the real fun, guy’s started coming to me and telling “I am a batsman”, ”I am a spinner” and “I am a captain”. The last statement annoyed me a little bit. Then I asked this guy how come you are telling that you are a captain, this guy said I played University level matches and I was the captain of my team there. I said that’s cool.

Now we ( Me, Harya, Nitya, Dinesh and Lungikar ) as I know these people are already good players. Harya played ranji level cricket and Lungi played university level cricket. They started short listing the people from the list I have. They came up with the best 11 people from the list and said this would be our team. I forgot to mention the best player I mean best off Spinner of the team Ankush Athale. You will read more about this person in next few paragraphs.

After this decision there are many different opinions in the class. By evening all others who were not considered for the team A ( Best of SYMCA) started another lobby and created a team B (Other than the best). The next two days went in estimating the other teams FY, TY MCA team’s strengths and weakness. Then we came to know that Staff also started planning to make their team. Still people are not sure how their team will be and who could play up to what extent. The team A gave their team name as "Sharaara" influence by "Mohabbatein" movie. Then the other team anyways knew as not the best team and influence by "Nikamma kiya is dil ne" kept their name as "Nikamme".

The practice sessions started and Sharara team started their practice as if they are going for international match with Aussies or IPL match with Mumbai Indians :) Nikamme as usual no practice but all are doing at their home with galli cricket. After few days series got started and the day of the match with our team (Sharaara) and juniors team started. There are much more expectations on this team as all big players are in here. But the Bollywood rule applied to our match also. (Bollywood Rule: Hype increase for any movie it goes flop.) Now you can expect the end result easily. As our team started to loose the match there were many comments started coming from juniors saying seniors are useless and all. But here somebody from juniors commented something on us and Ankush Athale got reacted to this comment very seriously and started scolding him in very high pitch, as this guy was already out and waiting for the last formality of declaring the match result. Then everybody's attention started moving towards these people and even the junior (I don't want to name this fellow) started shouting "Shame on u” kind of words in front of all girls.
Anyways we somehow subside this issue here and we went to hostel. We all know this is just a game and the time was not ours that day. but the very next day out B (Nikamme) played against our seniors and won the match dramatically. This increased our class spirits and then the next plan was to switch the people who have not played well in the B with the good players in A. which was kept secret till the end of the next match with the staff. The match started and somebody from the lobby shouted that some players were already played with team A and now playing with team B, but for 1-2 people we could manage to keep as a substitute of the other person and all. But we had to loose some people. In this match I guess Ankush was the key player who gave away 10 -15(I don't remember the exact number now ) runs as extras and this was the major contribution in their win.
In the next match there was something more serious happened. I guess this is the first time I say a spinner who got twisted his both legs and fell on the ground. This great guy was none other than our Nikamma player Chotu Yadav. This is approximately 100 kg in weight and he fell flat on his other leg while bowling as his left leg got completely twisted upside down including bone. But fortunately our college is a Physical education college we have lot of sports people around. Some MPEd students came to see the problem while somebody I guess Piyush Jain came with a Luna to pick this guy to Hospital. That MPEd student said please call ambulance while he twisted this guy's leg to the normal position with his hands while we were watching this as act with stunning faces.
Fortunately Chotu Yadav was able to walk after a week because of the MPEd guy's immediate treatment. After all these things happend the sports week was a good memory for us but we couldn't win the cup.
The only relief for us is me and Cherya ( Mahesh Charegoankar ) won the badminton doubles title in the indoor stadium on the closing day. For which we had a huge party till 1 in the mid night in "Kaash", Which we cannot forget ever. This party happened in rain with all our seniors and juniors in the hostel.

Exam Time .... [Happy Days XIII]

I am back with some interesting chronicles of college time.
Many students say, the exam time is the worst time they ever had in college time. Usually pupil enjoy the student life and college time very much. But when exams start they all put a full stop to the enjoyment and start study hard till mid nights. I heard this kind of stories from many people.
But I believe my exam days were more relished, because I have an appetite of humor and used made fun of people often. This is time where I used to get many people's leg to pull. I don't say I have a photographic memory but I can write and elaborate things well. This gave me little advantage than others in hostel. I used to read all chapters only once before exam day.
In our hostel some people used to read the whole chapters many times, they used to call this as "revision". That time, I didn't knew this will become a most important jargon of my life ("revision"). But I was never able to do it in my college life.
Some of my friends {I would like to mention their names [ CD, BAID, LOKYA, UNNI ... KOLTE]}
would always had 4-5 revisions for each paper. This is a big surprise for me till date.
The revision master was CD this guy always had 10-15 revisions. I used to sit wearing a short and a vest and sit for hours together with out changing the position. This is one more thing I could never do in my life time. I admire CD in this regard.
His roomie Baid was one more admirable person who never wasted a single minute during this time. I could give one "solid" example for this. We used to go to mess to have our dinner, but this guy don't want to waste the time he used to order a Tiffin to his room. Now you can imagine how many "Revisions" he could have done for each paper.
This is one category of the team .... the other team is Me and Nitin.
We used to play cards every day during the night even the day before the exam. Many people {Seniors} scolded us in many ways, but they couldn't change us. This became our sentiment to play cards before exam. Even we used to play the cards before we leave for exams some times.
{ PS: This was not over confidence, this was just sentiment }
When we started discussing about sentiment .... Some sentiments of our Hostel.
"On the day of Exam we have to hear Devotional Songs in the morning and pray god.
"Tu hi maata.... Tu hi pita hai.." I don't remember the singer name but this was the song we must hear before we leave to any exam."
I still remember this casette became old and it was not playing in the last semester but we somehow made it work for last few exams. { God was on our side for sure...... we all passed the exams.}
I am dam sure about that nobody from our hostel could forget this song in his life time.
Everyday we used to visit the Amba Mandir in the evening after dinner around 7:45- 8:00 PM.
This was the regular time of Aarti & Prashaad in this temple. Most of us never missed Aarti {Don't think this was a "Prashaad" bhakti}.
But before we go to Exam all of us used to visit this temple to pray the Amba.{ To get only those questions we read in the night :P in the exam}

Shekar’s Tapri….. [Hostel Days XII]

Here, I am talking about the most happening place of times 2000 -2004 in Amravati, Maharastra.
Nobody from HVPM can deny the above statement.

Shekar, the best tea maker, a good hearted, always support MCA guyz, the best money lender.
I would like to share my first day experience in Amravati and @ shekar’s tapri. That time shekar was inside our college premises near outdoor stadium. Me, Gajju, Lokya went for a tea in the morning around 7:30 AM. We ordered for tea and sat on the grass waiting for the tea. Four guys came there; all are above 6 feet with a good body built. All are sweating and carrying some packet in their hands. They ordered 2 milk, and took some pav-samosa and sat beside us. They opened the packet they brought with them, I could see 10-15 boiled eggs in it. The pav-samosa were around 8 -10. for my surprise the 2 milk were 2 ½ ltr packets for each person. Shekar brought 4 mugs of milk and kept before them. I could not resist myself by asking a question who they are? They are our college M.P.Ed(Masters in Physical Education) students after that I got used to see that kind of breakfast everyday.

The first Pav-Samosa I had in my life was at Shekar’s tapri. As a south Indian and a coffee lover from childhood I never liked to have tea, but after having tea at Shekar’s tapri I started liking tea. The ginger tea prepared by Shekar not only has a good taste, it is good for health too.

I think this the credit goes to our seniors making that good rapport with Shekar by treating him as a friend instead of a tea vendor. He was always ready to help MCA guys with anything he could. I personally took money when I was in need, waiting for DD from home. He was the part of our hostel; we called him for all our parties which are exclusively for hostel members.

There are many things used to happen here, usually movie plans, birthday preparations, shopping plans, the most important Party plans.

We all miss this happening place now and hope we will go back and have some good time again.

Note: I recently came to know that Shekhar is now opened a Juice center instead of Chai tapri on Badnera road.

I wish he would grow from juice center to hotel and chain of hotels ...... so on.

Semi up / Semi Down :) [Hostel Days XI]

P.S: Sorry for the delay happened to get back to you with the latest edition of my Hostel Days XI.

Guyz,
I believe most of the team members remember the title Semi Up and Semi Down, because it is the most popular dialog in our Panchmadi trip.
Panchmadi, the beautiful forest and hill station in Madhya Pradesh. I think that is the year 2002 – Oct/Nov month. Our senior in college Rajesh Dange’s sister marriage was there in a village called Nandan, M.P. We all in the hostel planned to go for this wedding to help him in the marriage. But we even had a plan to visit Panchmadi the hill station of MP. Of course this was a known plan, the journey itself was a life time memory to many of us. While going we went from Nagpur to Chindwara by train and from there a memorable bus journey of 3-4 hrs till Nandan.
Somehow we reached the place Nandan and asked somebody how to reach Dange’s house, as it is a small village we thought anybody can help us and even that was correct and we got the ‘s information, but the guy who explained the root in the below funny way – go straight , “take first left, you will get a SEMI UP, then take a right from there, you will get SEMI DOWN, go till the end you will find the house”. From that day our trip was of a week and wherever we found up or down we used to laugh for a minute. Anyways we went to the temple of Nandan on a hill in the evening it was really awesome place to stay for some time and see the nice sun set from there.
The next day was the marriage, we enjoyed the marriage lunch and we started for Panchmadi from there next day.

We took a TRAX to reach our destination; it was a awesome and pleasant drive through grazing lands, drenches, forests, woods etc to reach our destination. By the time we reached it was little dark and we planned for camp fire but didn’t work. . We got some accommodation and settled well for the night and took rest to start our expedition from next day. We went to many points next day the places I remember are ‘Bees fall, Chota Maha Dev, Bada Maha Dev, Pandav Kund, Draupadi Kund, Sun Set Point and most important one …. Duchess Fall.
Most of these places were pleasant and gave us a really good memories for life time.
Some highlights I would like to re-collect are
- Baid (Sachin Vaidya) ‘s Bhalu and Share. When we went to Duchess Fall there are large sign boards saying that is a Tiger Zone. When we are walking towards to fall there was some movement before some feet, we all stopped for a moment Baid said, it’s a Tiger……., but after few seconds one Dog came out of the bush. The same happened in the “Bear Zone”
- Bada Maha Dev – This is an unforgettable place with millions of Trishuls all over the hill. The size of these Tishuls goes from 2-3 cms to 2-3 meters, climb the hill with out carrying anything in your hands would be very difficult for a healthy person and Ia can’t even imagine the people carry the 2-3 meter size trishul while climbing this hill.
- Draupadi Kund – this is the place where many shootings took place like Shahrukh Khan ‘Asoka’. The chilling water in this place was created a doubt that we have our feet after few minutes in water. The tea we had after coming out from this kund was awesome and the costliest ever I had before that day .

- Duchess fall – This was the best part of our trip as many people on the way to this place told us not to go there, we became very curious and wanted to see what exactly it is. Our driver took us to a place where we can’t see any water near by and told us to take one path and walk for some time to reach the water fall. We started walking for 10- 15 minutes and we don’t even hear any voice but we realized that we are going downwards from a hill peak we walked for 10 more minutes to hear some voice of water and after 10 more minutes walk we finally reached the water fall. After coming back we realized that we went down for 800 feet and came back. While going there we had lot of fun as mentioned above.
So, that’s all for now let’s meet again with some other story after some time ………..

School Memories - Part II

If you missed School Memories Part I.
Here I am going to give introductions of some of our teachers whom I missed in my previous part. All the below mentioned characters are real and not fictitious, but any offensive comment on any character is not intentional.
  • Telugu Teacher - Her name is Shyamala. She always used to call us lambu jambu ( me and JNS) She never wrote a single sentence on the black board. I used to write the notes if required (I got many compliments from my teachers that my hand writing is very good.) If she need anything like deposits in Post office and bank etc. She used to send me and JNS for all these things, don't ask is this legal to do?
  • Maths Teacher - His name is Suryanarayana Murthy. He is really a good teacher with lot of knowledge and dedication towards teaching. He never waste a single minute in any class in my knowledge. Many students are afraid of him mostly those who don't read formulas. He is famous for his scoldings, they are very funny but the guyz used to feel bad when he scold them before the class (I mean before girls :)
  • Hindi Teacher - I don't remember her name but she is famous as Hindi teacher. She always teaches good but she is short tempered, if any student do any mistake she would become angry and scold them very hard but no student fear about this teacher. Even if she tried to beat any student she used to get injured instead of students. I still remember one incident I think when I was in seventh standard, She came to school on her Luna Super and there was a medium size bump at our school gate and she was unable to push this Luna above it and she asked me to push Luna from behind, now you can imagine her strength ;)
  • Physics Teacher - His name is Satyanarayana Raju. His style is very different than others. He always used to sit on the table instead of chair and he always used to carry many small pieces of Chalk with him to throw on the students who make any noise in the class. One more specialty of him is always called the students with their Sir name (Last name) instead of first name which is very rare in south india.
  • Natural Science Teacher -His name is Balakrishna. I fell he is the coolest person on the earth. He used to take the lesson as slow as possible. I would like to share one secret information about him, He used to have hair on all his body so, we (Confined circle of my friends) used to call him bear.
  • Head Master - His name is Vishwamohan Rao, he used to take us very small number of classes of social studies. His specialty is unique, he used to remove all his belonging like wrist watch, gold rings and pull out his wallet from the pocket and put all these things on the table and then start his lesson. I thought many times what if somebody stole any of those things while he was writing something on the board.
I would like to conclude now for today, will get back you with more funny incidents and sweet memories soon.

School Memories -Part I

VI - VII

Everybody has many Experiences at their school time some sweet and some sour memories. Some we want to share and some we don't want to..... but still I think whatever we could we should share with as many as possible. I am glad that, I am still connected to some of my school friends which usually not possible in this wast and busy world. Of course we will not be able to be in touch with all the friends for ever :(
Ok let's not drag this more and try to get into the point.
That is the Prakash Nagar area, Rajahmundry. East Godavari Dist., Andhra Pradesh.
On monday morning 9 O'clock there were many kids with big school bags going inside a big gate with an Arch above it which said Prakasam Centenary Memorial High School (PCM).
1992 Oct, I entered this gate with my dad by watching the surroundings all kids were wearing white shirt and blue half pants. I understand that this must be the uniform of this school. I was going to join this school for my VI standard as my dad moved from near village to the town for our studies.
I was little scared as I was not sure how this school and friends going to be and most important part was teachers. They might be very strict about the assignments and home work in which I am not good at.
Once my admission formalities are done, clerk told me to go to the first floor last room named VI-B. I said OK and went there by saying bye to my dad.
I went inside and there was no teacher in the class, I reached first bench and no one sitting there I kept my bag there and sat there. After some time one boy came inside the class and directly came to me and said this is my place try to sit in 2nd bench at that time I wasn't know that he is Sashil and going to be my best by next year. I had to move back this repeated again and I moved directly to the last bench. This was my first day experience in school. The class teacher was Subbalaxmi teacher, she was very cool and very kind in nature. I will never forget her for sure. She used to help economically backward students with books, uniforms etc.
By completion of this year I can say I don't have any friend close to me in this period of time. But Venky (Venkateswarlu Salagramam) was one who would come to my house and we used to play games at his home with his brother and study together for exams etc.
We reached VII and the class teacher was Sharada teacher. She is so think and has a little sick look. but she is very strict in the class and she used to beat the students if they create any mess in the class. She always wanted the class "pin drop silence", and she was successful in maintaining that too.
I had to sit on the last bench even in this class as people used to carry on their places class to class. I was so scared in sharda teacher's class and I never created any mess where most of the last benchers used to create problems. She noticed me when we got the marks of first unit test. I got much better marks than some of the first bench students I guess. I was not sure what was the reason, She called me one day in the class by pointing the finger, I was so scared .... I thought what mistake I did? but she said what is your name? I said with a very low voice ... "RaviKiran". She screamed, say it loudly. I said in a much bigger voice "Ravi Kiran" teacher. Ok, from tomorrow you sit in the first bench, beside Sashil. I said Ok and sit back in my seat. I was happy inside and at the same time afraid of this teacher.
This way, I transited my place to first bench and making friends at first bench. I got the place beside the class topper "Shashil Kumar Reddy". and I was not aware of the guy next to me on the other side. He looked cute with his chubby cheaks and wheatish complection. I said hello to him and he smiled back. We exchanged names his name was Ramchandran(referred as JNS in nex pages), it would take a full like if I write his complete named over here (Jayanti Naga Srinivasa Ramachandran). Now he is my one of the best Pal in the list. This way we three became bench mates. Ofcourse here I have to tell another name Venu Gopal, he was the second rank holder and a book worm too. we usually saw him reading books, nothing else. we used to play in the lunch hour by finishing our lunch ASAP, but this guy used to sit in the class and reading books.
Soon, I could make my best friends JNS and Sashil from this school. I joined a tuition class in my father's friend institute Modern Tuition Center (MTC) which is very famous in our town as well. Me and Sashil joined the same institute and in same batch. So, we started going together to the tuition. where as JNS and Venu Gopal joined Sharada teacher's tutorial school. but we never had any issue for this with teacher. She was quite ok but she always wanted somebody from her institute come as first in our class. Even it was happened for many times, Venu gopal stood first many times in many subjects.
Here I have to tell my position was very volatile always and I used to be in top five some where.
I would like to mention other bright students of our school hear JNS was first after the above two and I was also considered as an intelligent student ;). Then our friends list got increased to more number because of the Quiz program conducted by Sharada teacher between girls and boys. This Quiz used to be in every week and could be anytime. but the topic and subject was fixed a week before. So, we (Boys) have a fixed plan every week after the school unlike girls and read each of us one chapter completely and complete it before the due date. So, we made a team of guys Sashil, Venu, JNS, Me, Nagaraju, Venkateswarlu, MV Kiran, Uma Shankar.
This way we all became good friends and we used to exchange books, guide each other when required.
There are many things to Share but right now I am concluding with this.
Guys, If you want to add anymore memories please add.

Hostel Days (Part X)

Party Time ?

If you were a hosteler any time in your life you must be aware that how a party could be organized in a boyz hostel. If you are not a boy or never spent time in a hostel then you defenitely missed some golden moments in your life. but you need not worry because here I am sharing some golden moments of mine for you.........

May be our parties were different, because our parties were basically economy parties. I mean we were not having much money to go to big hotels and drink and dine there. In other words even we don't have Credit cards at that time. So we had to celebrate all our good times at hostel only. we used to drink, dance, dine and do whatever we want in hostel itself. So, this was a difficult task to do in hostel because for this we have to do lot of arrangements for each party.
We had fixed people to work on each task, I mean we used to divide our work among hostlers.
If we are having drinks we must have chicken and other stuff. I used to be in the shopping category because it is better to roam around in the evening and the only problem with this is to manage the finance. Most of the time people won't give their share of money on time and we have to invest for them. But of course for the enjoyment of the party we used to do this risk.

Me, Prashant, Unni were usually the team used to go for purchasing of the required items like .... "Drinks(Cold & Hot),Snacks(Veg & Non-Veg), Food Ingredients (Veg & Non-Veg), Cigarettes,..." list goes on. We used to leave in the evening at 5-6 O clock for all these items. We used to start from college with twi sacks and 2 big carry bags near Priya Theater there was our regular shop for drinks and always we used to bring some gift items from this shop like glasses, openers, lighters etc on each purchase. Once this is done one sack is full and then we used to move towards Mandi for fresh Chicken and one used to stay there for this, and other people would move for vegitables and masala items and oil. Once all these ingradients are purchased me and Prashant used to buy some fruits like "Grapes, Apple or any depends on season" and eat on the way back to the hostel (Most of the people in the hostel doesn't know about this fact ;).
While we were doing this, @ hostel there needs to be somebody who has to do some preperations like collecting plates, Rotis & Rice from Hostel (Regular people for this task were Lokya, Baid and Gaju) as these people were not interested to roam around and want to be at hostel and Nitin used to help these people whenever these people stuck while bringing rotis and Rice from Mess as they are huge in number for 15 people and Mess incharge used to object this.
Once we are back the process of cutting the vegitables ( Mante, CD, ) used to start and the popular cooks from our batch Ankush, Prashant seniors Sachin Gedam, Anil Doye used to start their process of making masala etc. and once the basic things are prepared we would make a big circle by sitting next to each other and keep all the stuff at the center. Here we should remember lokya's performance as he used to finish the drink as bottoms up and start eating snacks and shouting at other people to finish their drink early, one more point here for lokya after 2 rounds used to go and sleep instead of sitting and enjoying the party.
There are some more points to mention after party is over, those you can call party blues too. somebody has to clean the rooms and dispose the waste and clean the utensils etc. but I am sorry to say that I never involved in these activities unless there is no option.
Like this the party used to go on and on .....

Hostel Days (Part IX)

Happy Birth Day to you !!!

How do you celebrate your Birth day?
You might buy a new dress and celebrate with distribute sweets or chocolates on the day.
Ok, If you have to celebrate any of your friend's Birth day then how will you do it?
If you would have studied in any hostel then you could guess about the bumps. Yes, you are right... I am talking about those B'day bumps. These are the first time you would regret why I am getting older every year, coz you have to get 1 more bump extra for each year you grow.
But in our hostel there was something more than B'day bumps. We used to celebrate the birthday's at night. I mean at 12:00 AM as soon as the day starts we used to make the room dark and lit up a candle and a Birth day cake we used to bring with his famous pet name written on it. and ofcourse most of the time we used to wake up all the hostellers for this celebration. Some defaulters in the sleep for birthdays were Lokesh and Me (Pera). I was having a habit of sleeping at 10 PM those days, anyways this cake we are supposed to finish on the same night. usally there was no chance of keeping it till next morning as the cake we used to bring was not too big to remain till nex morning. Ofcourse after cake cutting only we used to give bumps to the b'day boy. as soon as he cuts the cake the first thing we would realise is Mr. Sachin Gedam was standing behind him with a strong and much painful opening shopt of this bumps ceremony. The second hard thing to resist was of Anil Doye. He is also an expert in hitting sixes in midnight and candle light.

In first year we celebrated these birthdays very promptly and not only celebrating birthdays we used to dance a lot on these occassions by switching on our old model music system. This was the reason we started a new tradition of giving a new music album casette as a gift to the b'day boy. This way the gift would be useful to all and the contribution is also from all, what say ?
So we used to play the new album that night and used to dance on any fast number of this album. One day I am not sure whose birth day was this, but we were dancing like anything and some M.P.Ed. as I told you our's was a PG hostel and there were some M.P.Ed students staying in same hostel. Some guy came to our room and started hitting the basket ball on our room's wall. This guy was over 6 feet and huge built as all M.P,Ed guys were fit and healthy due to their regular excersize uslike MCA guys. Some of us discussed with them and we subsided the issue.
Then after that issue we started playing the new album the next day morning or in the evening time and reduced the dancing part of it too as it was disturbing for other at that time of night.
I miss all these days for sure...... but here are my memories in the picture format.
here you go ......

Hostel Days (Part VIII)

Ganpati Bappa Morya !!! Previous Parts

From last few days you might be getting groups of people to your house for money (Chanda) for Ganpati Pandals. I could see on each and every corner of Pune with small or big Ganpati Pandal. This reminded me my hostel days again. We used to celebrate this Ganpati in our hostel too.
Can you imagine a Ganpati Puja in bachelor's hostel?
I can understand your feeling, but we were the most sincere devotees even Ganpati bappa got.
don't think that I am boasting. Though I was the one waiting for Prasad every day after Arti.
Most of our lot were good enough devotees.
The regular way we do celebrate the Ganpati puja early in the morning. and we used to sing Arti every morning and evening too. but the rule for Arti was we have to share the 1 Kilo of Sweet every day for Prashad.
There was a un written rule that we have to bring daily a different variety of Sweet for the whole 9 days. We used to decorate our small pandal rather we can call it as small stage with as much decorative possible for us in the "budget".
So, for our 9 day time pass the whole day was "Taash" (Playing Cards). We used to play the cards days together in this season. you might be thinking we were playing only for timepass if yes, you are mistaken we used to play for money of course very little money rather in form of tea or Snacks.
Do you know any game in cards in which more than 15 players can play?
I would like to introduce the game called "Show" to you hear. which is a tricky game with only 5 cards in each persons hand and you have to reduce the total count of the cards in your hand. The tricky part of this game is taking risk. Why and how you have to take risk is when ever you feel that I must be the one with the less score of total cards in all the people and you have to show the cards to all. If everybody has more score than you you win, and each individual has to multiply his score with 10 and those many points he lost. But, If somebody has less count than you showup his cards you will be in soup, you have to multiply the count you showed with 10 and everybody else wille get big "0". That means you will be the only sufferer in this case. So, you must be very sure when you are showing.
So, in this game we had some experts like Nitya, Who won almost all the times. The bet was always like Tea, Snax (Samosa in the evening, Geele wade in the morning). If we were playing this game in night who ever looses the game has to sponser the morning break fast at Amba Gate geele wade special shop.
The looser was not always alone. We used to keep points like 500, who ever crosses first this limit will be the looser. But at a time usually 2-3 people would be crossing this limit. If this doesn't happen we used continue the game till 2nd and 3rd person get into this mark.
Those days were really awesome and we all sit together in a Hall like a round table conference but here we used to play cards.
Here I have to mention some names who never played this game due to fear of loosing. But, they did enjoyed the snax and breakfast. So after many times we realized that these people are enjoying these things freely with out taking the risk of Show.
We mandated them to treat the whole group with one day snax and this was a real pleasure for me as well as Nitya. we had 2 plates of Geele wade on that day I guess ;).
Should I reveal those names now? Those great figures were Lokya and Parse.
If I had missing anything guyz, please add in your comments.

Hostel Days ( Part VII)

Dil Chahta Hai ?

One evening me and my dearest motya (Lokesh/Lokya) were sitting at outdoor stadium in the evening. we sat there for an hour and felt bore and started talking about the next plan of the day.
I said I have to go for a hair cut. Then suddenly the topic moved to fashion and he suggested me to cut the hair like the Aamir Khan in Dil Chahta hai. He said Aamir look so cool in that new hair style and I will also look good. I said if you think so you do that hair cut. Then he thought for a moment and said I would really like to go for that kind of hair cut.
I smiled at him and he said I am sure I am really going to do it. I said O.K let's go right now as anyways I need a hair cut. He said Ok come lets go now. We went to the standard saloon where we usually go and the Kaka welcomed us with a smile and I showed Lokya to him and said "This guy need a Dil Chahta hai cut" would you be able to do that cut? He said I am expert in that kind of cut. We used to call this as summer cut for kids, now it became famous as Aamir Khan did this in Dil Chahta hai. We both shared a laugh and Lokya sat in the chair and Kaka started his work.
After 15 mins I had a look inside while I was waiting out side for my turn and noticed that lokya looking good in that style.
I was impressed and I told Kaka to cut my hair also in the same way. Lokya waited out for me for next 20 mins and we both looked each other and gave a smile. we went back to hostel and as soon as we entered the room somebody screamed saying that "Hey Guyz come and see Pera(Me) and Lokya" with in few seconds all hostelers gathered in my room and laughed like anything. Everybody gave their comments on both of us and the last conclusion was everybody liked our hair cut. Then suddenly I got a flash idea and told it would be great if everybody make this hair style in hostel and we go to college all together.
This idea really went really well and we got 2 more members Mante and I think Nitya :)
fortunately the next day was sunday and we need not go to college. The next day morning we both took the next two enthusiastics to the saloon and trimmed their hair styles. Now we are four started campaigning as we don't want to remain as only four by monday.
We want to make a sensation in the college on monday with all hostelers with a Dil chahta hai hairstyle. By evening we got most of the team in and took everybody to the saloon and the fun part is that we bar gained with Kaka that we bring 6 more people and we want a discount on each cut. I know that you might not believe that, but this is the truth and we even got some out siders also in our band on sunday evening.
Below photo is the memory of this event and anyways I will not forget those happy moments.

Here I would like to introduce some more personalities to you in the below photograph. These
people are from not hostel but very close to the hostel and hostelers, starting with center of attraction and the solid physic is Shrihari Kinkar well known as Harry and Harya. and the standing line's center thin guy is Yogesh Sushir but nobody knows if you ask for this name but if you ask for Basheer everybody will point this fellow and last but not least super personality is Mahesh Cheregaonkar (kaafi lamba naam hai na) but no need to remember this much big name just call Cheresh.
I think I missed one more important hosteler who was not introduced earlier is, in the standing line right most corner is south super hero Jagan Mohan Reddy known as Jaggu.
So, This was the day of Dil Chahta hai .............
A sweet memory of my hostel days :)

Hostel Days (Part VI)

Wajar Trip

For Previous Parts Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, Part V

After 1-2 ka 4. I would like to share the memories of trip to Wajar (A small village with big values.) 80 KM distant from Amravati.

I think that is on Aug 15th '01. That was very soon I joined the hostel and most of our batch people are not in the hostel. Our seniors planned a trip to Wajar, I didn't know even the name of that village till that date. Someone from my senior batch came to me and asked that would I be interested to join for this trip as they were going in our college bus and there are lot of seats empty.
I thought for a moment and said I would like to join though no one from my batch are joining this trip. Then I asked him what is the specialty of this village and the response was very heart touching for me.
The answer was my college is maintaining a home for the mentally retorted children in this village and we are going to share this day with them and distributing sweets to all those children there. Then I said I would defenitely want to participate in this tour and wanted to see how this home is and to meet those small kinds who are missing their most valuable things in their lives.
We started our journey and around 9 AM I guess and we reached there with in 2 hrs. The way to this village was really cool and full of scenic beauty. We didn't even know when we completed the journey of course with a tea break for the us and driver. and the organizer of this home was with a similar hair style to Abdul Kalam and a slim personality was there to invite us.
After getting down the bus I looked around and there was a small hill and path way to reach that hill. But I don't see any building over there and wondering where that could be. This social service man guided us to take that path way towards the hill and it was so beautiful view.
We reached the small house entrance and all the kids were formed in a queue and they have a
flower in their hands. each kid handed a beautiful flower to each of us. This was a thrilling moment for all us as we didn't expected anything like this with these kids. But everything was very organized there, there were three or four young girls who are serving these kids and training them many things like how to wish the people and how to behave with new people etc. We handed the sweets we took there to the organizer and he handed them to one of those girls.

Then the organizer showed us all the kids and told the history of each of the kid. I mean how he got into this home, who are their parents and why they left this kid here etc. Each kid had a tragic story behind him which he himself doesn't know and smiling at us when the organizer talking about his story to us. After hearing all of these kids stories, we realized that India has millions of kids like this and many unfolded tragic stories. Then we moved to see the whole home, there are around six rooms there with different beds, bathrooms for different kids.
I have to appreciate my college management to look after these students giving them food all throughout the year. He showed us the garden developed by these kids and it was so beautiful with full of flowers and trees.

After that we told the organizer that we are going to see the surrounding scenic beauty and started climbing the mountain near the home. we saw all the wonderful sceneries and returned to bus while coming back we said good bye to all the kids and left with a heavy heart. The bus was full of silence for next 30 minutes while coming back and somebody interrupted the silence and said hey all, see there is a Chic Peas (Chana) cultivation and it is grown up now to eat anybody interested for it? I said even if we are ready to eat who will give us to eat them?
He said who wants to ask them? I understand his idea and smiled back with in seconds we were in the fields of chic peas and plucked as many as possible and got back to the bus.
All the way back was full of rain and we enjoyed this journey a lot. that way this journey became a memorable day in our lives.

Hostel Days (Part V)

B-Batch & "1-2-ka-4"

For Previous Parts Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV

When the days were going cool and I started learning Hindi and Marathi. One day we came to know that the MCA seats in the University are getting increased and there will be second part of admissions in the second batch. University granted 30 more seats to our college. We all were so excited to see the new batch guys as we were expecting some good looking girls, frankly speaking.

Anyways, the new batch came and joined. Some people here are old friends of some guys in hostel like Gaju and Psycho. They all belong to same town called Buldhana in Maharastra.
I am not going to introduce all the new batch as I am more friendly to the people in Hostel.

We found new diamonds of the class and hostel, The new batch hostelers featured as below.

Prashant Kolte (Prashya, Kolte, etc)
Mahesh Kulkarni (C.D)
Ankush Athale (Butrya, Ankya, ....)
Pankaj Hingnekar(baaga)
Ratnesh Dubey (dubey)

Brief Intro
Prashya: First thing you notice in him is height and he is thin too. always with a trimmed mustache and big thinker, I was never sure what he was thinking all the time.
C.D: This witty guy is short and with mustache and very keen about his hair style all the time.
This guy always make fun of others and of course was the target for other to attack on. You have to hear his English and too good in Hindi as well.
Ankya: The first thing you will notice that he is the shortest. He is the most talented guy in the lot. He was our one man practical guide. (I mean we all used to copy his practicals).
Baaga: He is the person with the equal composition of height and weight. He is in little dark complexion. I didn't spent much time with him as he left our college so early as he joined Fire Engineering in Nagpur.
Dubey: He is a little bit complex man to understand as per my understanding in a little time. He also left hostel after 1st semester I think. So we were only interacted in the college after that.

When these guys joined hostel we were lack of rooms and got more admissions. After discussing with our warden they got arranged some extra rooms in the Naturopathy and Ankya, baaga and dubey used to stay there only. and I had to adjust with my Seniors Anil and Rahul.

After these guys admission our hostel became more happening than before and daily we used to share and discuss many more things than earlier.
And we used to play cards for hours in the rainy season because most of the people are not interested to go to classes in that wet and cold weather. I learned lot of different games in Cards there like Rummy, Show, not at home, memory and many more.
We started watching movies every Sunday. In this part Me and Psycho are partners as we were ready to see any kind of movies like Govinda, Mithun, Sunny or any new comer movie, for which most of the people were not ready to watch.

I have to share a memory here when we are discussing about movies, The ragging phase was over and we are now very close to our seniors almost like classmates. That was the time Shahrukh Khan is in reaching to No1 position and the movie "one two ka four" got released. All our hostel people decided to watch that movie on saturday night.
We decided to go for a 9-12 show. Officially we are suppose to be inside the hostel @ 10 PM (but every hostel has some other way to get inside. )
When we reached to theater I think it is "Priya Theater" there was a huge crowd and we got into charge as soon as we can and occupied the queue and hopefully we would get the tickets after looking at the people were less compared to the people at back in Q.
we got the tickets and went in side the theater as there was no numbering system we have to occupy the seats in one row and we are almost 15 people. It seemed very difficult when the crowd started increasing. we moved towards the door and the passage was not too large and the crowed started becoming crazy and the space between person to person started reducing. In India we are used to for these kinds of crowed every where like local trains, ration shops, for municipal water ..... and list goes on.
We have a big crowed over there, somebody started playing a game in that crowed. I think that guy must be from my hostel only. Somebody hit a slap on the head at the person standing before him from back. This game went on good for some time and somebody outside our group started taking advantage and started playing game with us. In this one of my friend hit somebody who is unknown to us and that person suddenly retarded violently. Our body builder senior Anil gave slap to him unknowingly and he started calling all his friends and our friend also called all our friends and there was a small stunt went for couple of minutes and the door of theater got opened fortunately. We went in and got seats too the biggest loss happened to me that my "Cheppal" was torn and I had to walk on one single cheppal.

Hostel Days(Part IV)

Language Problem

Previous Parts - Part I, Part II, Part III and here we go forward ....

Here I am going to take the opportunity to tell you more about my Hostel. As I told you earlier I was learning Hindi at that time in Hostel and I usually getting assignments on hindi as I has to learn hindi asap. My senior Sachin Gedam usually training me in this with a trick the trick was giving training in Abuses in Hindi and Marathi with some example sentences. These things would generate enthu in me and I would love to practice them on my roommates. Even they were enjoying when I was abusing them as my accent was very different and interesting as per their comments.

I would like to share one weird experience in my early days of college. Though I started learning Hindi and Marathi I was not able to read Marathi that time.
It was already 4:00PM and I have to attend the last lecture of the day. When I returned from library benches are filled and I was somehow managed to get a seat in the last bench. The lecture was of Ramteke sir and the subject I guess is Simulation and Modeling but not sure now. somebody wrote a "Shayari" of course it was a non veg share on a paper and passed it to the next person. This rotation was going on through out the lecture and at the end it reached me and I tried to read that. But I was unable to read it as I don't know how to read and the class was almost empty as the lecture was completed.

There was a lady scavenger waiting out side to clean the class room entered and saw that I was putting that paper inside the desk. She went there and pick that paper and read it for my misfortune. I went out and talking to my hostel friends, she came out and started shouting at me. I didn't understand that too. She went up to our course coordinator and told him about this "Shayari".
By this time my hostel friends told that she is scolding me as they guess that this could be because of the shayari. I said I didn't even understand that. They said if Sir ask you about this tell him that I don't know anything about it and don't reveal any name. It was almost like a warning. I went up as our office boy came to us and that lady was standing at first floor pointing me from there to him to bring me there.
I had to go up and meet Deshpande sir and he started scolding me in Marathi which I couldn't understand at all. After he completed his version I simply told him I don't understand Hindi and Marathi well. He suspected me and asked Sabnis for the clarification of my admission. He clarified that I don't know Hindi too as my admission was on "Other State" category and I already spoke to Sabnis many times from admission to Hostel joining.
After clarification of Sabnis I told him that I am not at all aware of that I found it in desk and tried to read but couldn't understand so I kept it there only.
He said Ok but I will not spare if this repeats in a regular teacher voice. I was not too much tense about his warning like a regular student.

After coming out my hostel friends asked me whether I revealed any name. but I said no and all were happy and we all went for a evening tea in a relaxing mood.

Hostel days (Part III)

Ragging is Injurious to health?

I think you already read the old post Hostel Days II.Please read it to get linked.

Here starts my Journey for three year MCA. I can't really write all the memories I have as some of them are sweet and some of them are sour. But I would really try to write most memorable moments of these three years.
I really has to start with good ones as it fells better if you talk about anything good. As I told you before that I was a Hindi learner at the time of my joining. I couldn't speak anything once we reach the hostel after the classes. Would you believe it I was staring at all my friends when they spoke to each other for first few months instead of talking to them?
I was deeply observing these people when they speak and each word and how to pronounce this in the slang and all. But of course after some months people were listening to me as they were not getting any chance to speak and they thought this guy was watching us these many months and now he is taking revenge for keeping him silent for these days.

I never bothered about their feelings anyway, when we are talking about the Hostel I would like to introduce the great characters of our Hostel before I start.......hmmm.....where should I start.

When I joined Hostel these are the Personalities already opted for hostel in my class.

Santosh Menon (Unni)
Nitin Meshram (Nitya)
Sachin Vaidya (Baid)
Gajendra Gaikwad (Gaju, Gaju kukka, so on)
Vaibhav Thakre (Daw.... don't ask me the meaning)
Lokesh Nagrale (Lokya) and last but not least ...
Sandip Mante (Psycho)

I understand in few days that this guy Unni has good relationships with some of my seniors as they were classmates in the B.Sc in Nagpur, he is always making fun of others.
Then the guy Nitya is also having some other senior friends from childhood as they all belong to same town called Gondia. He is a smart and intelligent guy and always boasting about that. coming to Baid he is the nephew of our course coordinator and a calm guy with little patience. Gaju is a typical person who always expect friends has to do everything for him and in return should not expect anything. Daw is almost a invisible member of the hostel as his Aunt stayed in the same town and he visited there often. Lokya the first thing you notice is his size and and his tummy.
Psycho(unfortunately my room mate for 4 years even after leaving hostel) is a man needs a big introduction, he is from a small village and he would be the second software engineer from this village. So you can think his popularity in his village and why he is popular as Psycho? This Q is difficult to answer but I would like to tell some facts about this person. He love the songs of Saajan, Sadak, and many old Midhun movies which you might not heard of ... and he sings them and he listens them like anything.

I think you could recognize some of the above mentioned figures in below image.
The ragging was going on...seniors usually mention the person who has to come to their room and place after Dinner every day once they are done with this person they will send the next person details with this first guy.
This is how they used to take one by one.
My First Day of Raging: I went in and by the time I went in I know most of my senior's names. But I was little confused and of course little tense as well. We have to by heart our introduction which is mandatory for all juniors. Seniors used give a format of Introduction, which they got from their seniors I think. but as soon as we enter their room we have to give this introduction. Don't ask what all was there in that format....
Once I entered the room I could see that there are three cots attached to the three walls except the wall of the door. There was only one chair just after 2 feet inside the room from the entrance and all the cots were occupied by Seniors. I could see all of their faces. I think Anil/Sachin told me that do we need to switch the button to start the "Intro"(this is how they used to Pronounce Introduction)?
I came back to my senses and started my Intro. I don't think they are satisfied with my Intro I could see that in their faces. But I was standing like a statue. I heard some voice in my favor said "Sit". felt relaxed and sat in that chair. Then they started the conversation in Hindi which I couldn't understand much. I think Swapnil said, what the heck we enjoy ragging in Hindi and this fellow don't understand it. Shall we give him first assignment to learn Hindi and submit the assignment tomorrow? Everybody laughed at this statement and I couldn't understand completely but I also had to smile in response. They asked me different kind of Q like where I am from and what is the specialty of my place Rajamundry in coastal Andhra Pradesh. for my surprise 2nd Q was not at all related to first they asked me to write a program for sorting the list of numbers in an array, I couldn't write this program in c++ which I know but due to pressure of 15 people observing me and each letter I write. After few minutes they took this paper and said Ok then they asked me to tell the numbers 1-25 numbers with out any stop. I completed this task very easily but as soon as I completed this I think Rajesh told me to say these numbers in reverse from 25-1 with out stop :( which I had to giveup after 5 numbers.
It went on to my graduation college and about my girl friends, hobbies like Drinking, smoking etc and many more Q for next 40 minutes.
at the end Sachin said the assignment is always the Q you were unable to answer.
Warning: Don't try to fool us we always note all the Q you didn't answer.
Of course the important and expected Q came out at the end when I was about to leave the room. that was "Can you tell all our names from that corner?" as expected I forgot some guys name this also added to my Assignment list too.
But when I came out I felt Ok nothing like they have done anything cruel or something. I felt this healthy ragging is good and it would improve our skills and confidence level.

I think if the ragging in it's limits it would improve the relationship between the new comers and the seniors. I am very lucky to have the seniors like this and had a healthy ragging in my college.

Hostel Days(Part II)

Hope you read the Part I and continuing with Part II, If not please visit My journey to MCA-Part I.

August 2000, HVPM,
Amravati.

The day I joined was too late to visit the college, So I stayed at the Hotel or Lodge near to railway station I guess the name of the lodge was Rukmini. Anyways this was not super cool lodge I had to fight even for the hot water to take bath in the morning. I had a quick shower though I couldn't get the hot water, I left Lodge in search of the college with the name HVPM. I don't know anything other than the name and people at the University told me that this college is so famous and if you ask anybody they will take you there. I asked one person who looked decent to me compared to the other people with a good shirt and a shirt in, but he gave me a blank look and said I never heard of this college. I was surprised by his look and words as I didn't expect this becoz of the its boasted popularity of that college.
The another gentleman told me that you have to ask this college by the name "Akhada" instead of HVPM or DCPE. I was even don't know the meaning of this word at that time and I just started learning Hindi at that time.

Finally I reached the college by taking two right turns from Rajkamal Chowk first at Gandhi Chowk and second after Amba Devi temple. I saw the big gate of Akhada so called DCPE.
As soon as I entered the gate I could see a STD booth and small kids playing basket ball and I thought oh .... basket ball court in the college which we usually won't find in the colleges.when I was crossing this court I looked for somebody whom I could as where is the Computer department and I found a tall thin man coming towards me I hesitated first to start the conversation as I am not fluent in English and doesn't know Hindi. But I am left with no option and I asked him simply "Where is Computer Dept?". He gave a glance at me and asked me why do I need computer department? I was little puzzled why did fellow asking me like this but I have to tell him that I joined this College in MCA course and I have the receipt of of admission from the University. He guided me how to reach DCST( Dept of Computer Science and Technology). I reached the place and went to the first floor as I could see only empty class rooms in the ground floor. There I saw the smiling face of the Clerk (Sabnis Sir) whom I met at the time of admission in Uni. I gave him the receipt of admission, he took all my personal details like permanent address, telephone no of my home etc and asked me a Q puzzled me for a min,"Are you going to join Hostel?". I was still thinking and he interrupted me saying check it out first and then you can decide. I felt that was a good option. He guided me how to reach the hostel and ask for MCA block in it and there would be all other MCA guys too.

I took the same path suggested by Sabnis and reached a build with the name "Raghunath Rao Khaniwale Hostel". I felt good when I read this line as my Dad's name is Raghunath. I figured out the MCA block and reached there but the look and feel of this place is not too good and clean. what else you can expect from a Boyz Hostel ?
I knocked the door of one room as all other rooms are locked. I saw the person to whom I asked where is the computer dept? then I realized why this guy was asking why do I need MCA Dept then. He asked my name and he introduced I am Anil and he introduced another guy Sachin and Rajesh. I thought they are all my class mates then Rajesh told me that they are my seniors.
I was little bit confused what to do, they said don't worry and relax as they are not going to rag me that time. I felt OK after this statement and they suggested me to opt Hostel as already 7-8 people joined hostel and it will also help me learning Hindi and Marathi quickly as I will be spending most of my time with all these people.
I left hostel and reached and I thought I will be joining this hostel as I am not left with any other option, I already came with my luggage and no time to search any room outside. This is a easy option where I can simply bring my luggage and I am done.
My thoughts ended once I reached back to the department and met Sabnis. I decided to join Hostel and paid the money for hostel and got the receipt he told me to get my luggage and join the hostel anytime. He allocated a room to me and asked me to inform the hostel warden (Ramteke Sir) the next day about my joining.
I went back to Hostel to inform my seniors about my joining in Hostel. They conveyed me their wishes and told me a information that all my class is on a common bunk and I am not suppose to attend the classes for next one week. As my admission was a month late I was in waiting list because of my result of B.com (Andhra University) was not out when I was suppose to join in the first time admissions were on. So I was kept in waiting list 1. Anyhow I have to do a time pass for a week now, I have to go to Nagpur for this week as my home is too far 1200 KM from this place.
Here I started my Golden Hostel days .............
Keep watching for next ...

Hostel Days (Part 1)

My Journey to M.C.A
(Master of Computer Applications OR Misuse Computers Always)
Let me introduce myself first "RaviKiran Perumalla" from Andra Pradesh a state in south India.. a belong to a town turned into a City called Rajamundry. I did my graduation in B.com from there. In those days I was planning to do CA (Charted Accountant) in those days as...But of course I ended up doing MCA as my parents and myself was not confident enough to complete the toughest course of CA. My family knows about my hard work for studies very well, now even my hostel mates know about that too.

Now when my family decided that MCA is the best course for me, they sent me for a short term coaching for the entrance exam. Even I didn't had any issues with the MCA as my cousin working for an MNC at that time for good Package told me that Software will be a leading industry in India soon..... which would give you potential career growth in future :)

As usual I did enjoyed the training period of 30 days in Viajayawada with my family friend Ravi Sankar and his friend cousins Atchiraju & Ram Raju. These training days flied by and the Exam day came and I was not ready for the exam as expected and got a rank in four figure (XXXX). Which intern tells me that I will not get a seat with this rank as I belong to O.C (Outlandish Cast).

Then I am left with no option than wasting one year at this point then I came to know about the University of Nagpur and Amravati University as my friend Ravi sankar's brother Phani Ram has joined there a year before. He sent both of us the applications and we landed in Nagpur and I got admission somehow though it is a little story ....Lets skip it for time being and I got the admission in Amravati University and joined a college called "DCPE" in the course MCA. This college is organized by a body called "HVPM".

Please don't laugh if I say DCPE means Degree College of Physical Education and HVPM stands for Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal. This college has a history of almost a century founded in 1914 to train the Indian activists for physical fitness who are fighting against the British govt run by England who ruled India for around 150 years.

Once I took the admission in the University Campus I roamed around the campus and pretty impressed with this campus and I was very curious to see my college campus which is 15 KM away from the University. It was already evening so I couldn't go to the college that day...and decided to visit next morning.

From this visit My life's 3 yrs was the Golden days I spent in that campus.....
Please watch the next posts ........
